Ms Tara Novak has been a registered Nurse at Calvary Mater Newcastle since 1995, having worked as a Haematology Clinical Trial Co-ordinator since 2005. Her main areas of interest are in Multiple Myeloma and Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia.
Getting to know you
When did you start doing research?
I started in haematology clinical trials in 2005.
What research projects are you currently working on?
Myeloma treatment for newly diagnosed, >65 year old Zoster Vaccine in post autologous transplant patients MM patient data base.
What inspires you?
Knowing that we are potentially helping in the prolongation and quality of life of the haematology patient population.
What did you do before coming to work at Calvary Mater Newcastle?
Registered Nurse at Stockton Centre.
What did you do before you became a researcher?
Haematology Day Ward Co-ordinator before a back injury led me into the area of research.
What made you decide to do research?
As a "misplaced" person I was put into a maternity relief position which happened to be in the same office as the research staff. There was a position becoming vacant at the same time in research so I applied for it and got it.
What was your first / worst / best / strangest / memorable /etc job in research?
I started at a very busy time and was pretty much thrown into the deep end with no formal handover. I learnt very quickly!
What do you do to relax?
Relax!@#- I have a nearly 2 year old.....
