Clinical Toxicology
The Department of Clinical Toxicology provides an inpatient service for the management of poisoned and envenomed patients. For the management of deliberate self-poisoning patients, the department combines with the Department of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry as the Hunter Area Toxicology Service.
Clinical toxicology research includes:
- Research leaders in drug-induced QT prolongation, treatment of paracetamol poisoning, the management of behaviourally disturbed adults, relative toxicity of drugs in overdose
- Extensive series of publications on venoms and antivenoms for snakes and spiders which is funded under a NHMRC Fellowship
