Nursing

The Spirit of Calvary expresses how we care for each other, and how we care for our patients and our clients by ‘Being for Others’. Our values include Hospitality, Healing, Stewardship and Respect. Nurses at Calvary Mater Newcastle are committed to these values and providing excellence in patient care, improving health care services and outcomes.

Calvary Mater Newcastle links into the Hunter New England Nursing and Midwifery Research Centre (NMRC) which supports practice-based research across the District. The centre aims to improve patient and service outcomes, building research capacity and capability within the disciplines of Nursing and Midwifery, and stimulating a culture of evidence-informed practice. In addition to supporting clinicians to undertake research the NMRC undertakes research focused on broader Nursing and Midwifery workforce and professional issues.

Calvary Mater Newcastle willingly supports and facilitates nursing research that will improve or develop knowledge to:

  • Build the scientific foundation for clinical practice
  • Prevent disease and disability
  • Manage and eliminate symptoms caused by illness
  • Enhance end-of-life and palliative care
